Description
Rhizoma coptidis is used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
diabetes, bacillary dysentery, pertussis, sore throat, aphtha, and eczema.
The bioactive compounds in rhizoma coptidis, especially alkaloids, may help suppress lesions caused by type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). These lesions include diabetic vascular dysfunction, diabetic heart disease, and diabetic retinopathy.
Some studies suggest that rhizoma coptidis can reduce atherosclerotic lesions, lower cholesterol levels, and inhibit cellular triglyceride accumulation. However, more research is needed to understand the exact mechanisms of action of these compounds.
