Myristica fragrans Houtt is commonly named nutmeg or mace. It is an aromatic evergreen tree with spreading branches and a yellow fleshy fruit similar in appearance to an apricot or peach. Nutmeg was probably imported into Europe during the 12th century, by Arab merchants
Myristica fragrans have anti-secretory and anti-diarrheal properties against various microbes and pathogens (Grover et al., 2002). Two antimicrobial resorcinol malabaricone C and malabaricone B were separated from the mace, which is the outer covering of the seed of M. fragrans.
